Text:Psalms 136
What does it mean to say that the mercy of the Lord endures forever? Well, mercy is not getting what we deserve. Each and every one of us deserve punishment and eternal hell. God, who is rich in mercy, gives us a way out of both. He gave His only begotten Son as the perfect sacrifice for our sin. We can receive forgiveness and cleansing through the precious blood of Christ. This gives us abundant life on this earth with purpose and meaning and it also gives us eternal life in heaven with God our Father.

In Psalms 136, we see at least five reminders of the mercy of God. First, God does great things. The Lord over and over again in Scripture shows us His wonderful works. God destroyed armies, lead His people, moved in the hearts of kings, and many many more. The pinnacle is Him giving Himself, and the saving all that turn to Him and receive the gift of salvation.
\
The Lord also created all that is, Col. 1. Everything that is or ever was is a creation of God. God created everything for His glory and honor. God created everything with order and design as well. When you look at creation down to the most minute details, you see design and creativity. You see the Lord high and lifted up. God also sustains His creation. His creation is so fickle and yet so robust and works just as He designed.
In Exodus, the Lord also lead His people out of bondage. God leads us out of bondage today. The bondage of sin that naturally holds each one of us has been destroyed if we turn to Christ. Then God led His people in the wilderness and provided for them. God leads us through this life on earth. This is not our home for we are pilgrims passing through. Yet God takes care of His children and provides constantly.
His mercy endures forever and God is true to His promises. God also always upholds His part of the promise and His plan continues. God is true and just. God’s timing is not ours and His ways are above ours but God will always fulfill His promises, I Kings 8:56; II Peter 3:9. Trust the Lord and lean on His mercy today.
