What Are We Doing?

Text:Galatians 5:13-ff.; Luke 12:42-48

I have a few questions for all of us today. What are we doing? What is the church doing in the world today? In New England alone, you can have Christians gathering at a fun event or a concert and you can literally draw thousands of people. I have no question that these events are real and there are many good people there that love the Lord. Then we all go home and I ask, what are we doing? Is the world changing because of the church today and if not why? You can struggle with that question and come to your own answer but I do believe either way there is an important element that is missing from most Christian’s lives today. That would be keeping in step or walking with the Spirit.

You see this takes energy, time, sacrifice, and much more. To keep in step with the Spirit, we have to surrender to the will of the Father and that goes against our flesh. Our flesh is strong, however, the Spirit is greater. Greater is He in us than the one that is in the world. We can overcome the flesh and live in the Spirit keeping step. Are we willing to make the sacrifice and take the yoke of Christ upon our own shoulders? What are we doing?

We have a wonderful collection of letters and books that we call the Bible readily almost anytime of the day and anywhere we may be. Is that Bible really the Word of God? Have you tested it and tried it. God is not afraid of our testings. He will prove faithful and true every time. You see, many Christians read the Bible and will claim it is true but never put it to the test. They never live the truth in hard times. We are quick to give up and reach out to the world for help. May the children of God be quick to reach out to the Bible and claim His mighty promises.

You see, Christ is exactly who He claimed. God in the flesh came down, gave His life for all mankind, rose on the third day and now lives triumphantly over the world for His children. Christ gives us the ability to truly live and be free from the curse of this world and the flesh. May we remember that Christ is coming back, Luke 12:42-48, and may we live each moment keeping step with the Spirit of God. Obedience all the way.
