Advent 2024 – The Babe, the Lamb, and the King – Part 6

Text:Isaiah 9:1-7; II Samuel 7:1-13

Let us conclude this 6 week advent year. We looked at the miraculous birth of God in the flesh to a virgin in Bethlehem. Christ gave us the perfect example of humility. Here the King of kings was born not in a palace but in an animal stall. His crown was the hay in the manger. However, the angles proclaimed his birth to the shepherds that were watching their flocks.

We then spent two weeks looking at Christ the perfect Lamb slain for the sin of the world. Our salvation comes only through the sacrifice and blood of God Himself in the flesh. Jesus Christ took the penalty for sin that belongs to us and satisfied the wrath of the Father giving us access to the kingdom of God and an eternity in heaven.

Today we finish up with the idea of Christ the King. It was prophesied in the Old Testament several different places and we looked last week at the words of Christ Himself. This kingdom is a spiritual kingdom that has a very real affect on the physical world. So the question was, “What does it mean to live as a kingdom citizen?”

If you know Jesus Christ as your Savior, you are a kingdom citizen and we should be about the Father’s business. When we do His will, we are living in accordance with the kingdom rules. So we are to be a people of prayer, Matt. 21:13; I Tim. 2:1, 2. How is your prayer life? We need to pray for our leaders and this is the only thing that will change our country.

We are also, to be a people that witnesses, Prov. 11:30; Matt. 4:19. If you and I are to be wise, we will lead others into a relationship with God. We also are to have the kingdom mindset which is one of unity. Our natural man is slanted towards power and pride. At any given moment, we may be tempted to use knowledge or other gifts that God gave us for our own agenda. Man loves to appear wise and seeks admiration which causes us to add to the scripture. If one is stretching scripture we need to be the watchers on the wall. Everything we do is to be about bringing unity to the body and not division. Let us celebrate Christ always!
