Christ In the Holy Days III

Text:Lev. 23:23-25; Gen. 22:6-14

Up to this point we have looked at the first four feasts which happen in the Spring. They are all about the coming of Christ as the perfect, sacrificial Lamb of God. Christ the Messiah alone washes away the sin of all who receive this gift. He is the Bread of Life and the First Fruit being the first and only to raise Himself from the dead. The last three feasts are all about Christ coming back as the conquering King to rightfully claim His dominion on this physical earth once and for all.

The first of these last three is the Feast of Trumpets. This feast is also known as Yom Teruah. There are several meanings to this feast and all are in preparation for the arrival of the King. A trumpet is used to warn others, pronounce judgement, declare war, make an important announcement, for a call to repentance and to cause one to reflect. All of which are involved with this feast.

The Feast of Trumpets starts the ten days of Awe which lead up to the Day of Atonement which is the holiest day of the year. However, before all of this, there is a 30 day preparation time to get ready for the Feast of Trumpets. This is a period to make things right and prepare for repentance and fellowship with God. It is a time to remember who God is and who we are as His children. Psalms 81 and 27 are typically read as well as Genesis 22. Also, Ezra and Nehemiah are remembered to celebrate who God always keeps His promises and will one day welcome His people into His Kingdom.

Christ is symbolized all through the Feast of Trumpets as it is a call to repentance and to wake up, I Cor. 1:7; I Tim. 6:14. It is also a time of great fellowship as Christ bring joy and peace through His grace and restoration, Phil. 2:12; Titus 2:13. Then we see the announcement of Christ second coming to right the wrongs and set up His physical kingdom here on earth. This all should bring His children to boldly declare the gospel to a world that is dying and will be judged by God Almighty. May the church prepare for the coming of our great King and rise with courage to reach a world that is in darkness.
